Thiruvananthapuram, June 5 (IANS) The islamic holy month of Ramadan would begin in Kerala from Monday, announced Muslim clerics here.
P.V. Suhaib Moulavi, the Imam of the Thiruvananthapuram Palayam Masjid made this announcement after the sighting of the moon in Kozhikode on Sunday evening.
The ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan, which can be 39 or 30 days, involves most Muslims keep from fast from daybreak to dusk.
Ramadan ends with Eid ul-Fitr.
Muslims in Kerala constitute 88.73 lakh (41.76 lakh males and 46.97 lakh females) of the 3.30 crore population.
