Italy’s Prime Minister Renzi visits national team before Euro

Rome, June 5 (IANS) Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on Sunday visited the national football squad at the Coverciano sports centre, in Florence, to wish luck to the players who will travel to Verona later in the day to play their last friendly match before the European Championship.

Renzi arrived on Sunday morning in Coverciano, when the squad was at a training session, and stayed about an hour talking with chief coach Antonio Conte and the footballers, reports Efe.

Renzi told the 23-man squad, according to local media reports, to behave well during the European tournament scheduled to start Friday June 10 in France.

The Italian team is in Coverciano for the final phase of preparation in readiness for the Euro and then they will play on Monday in Verona the last friendly against Finland before the European competition.

On June 8, the selection will travel to Montpellier in southern France, where preparation for debut against Belgium in Lyon on June 13 will take place.
