Qatar PM hosts banquet in Modi's honour after meeting

Doha, June 4 (IANS) Following their bilateral meeting, Qatari Prime Minister Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani on Saturday evening held a banquet in honour of his visiting Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

"First day in Doha ends with a meeting with PM Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Thani who also holds banquet in PM's honour," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

Earlier on Saturday, in a special gesture, the Qatari Prime Minister received Modi at the Doha airport.

Soon after his arrival here, Modi visited a medical camp organised for Indian workers in this Gulf nation and promised all support to them. Of the around 630,000 expatriate Indians in Qatar, many are blue collar workers.

Modi's visit - in the second leg of his five nation tour after Afghanistan - is the first to Qatar by an Indian Prime Minister since Manmohan Singh in 2008.

On Sunday, he will begin his engagements in Qatar with a meeting with business leaders following which he will hold a restricted meeting with Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

After Qatar, Modi will go to Switzerland, the US and Mexico.
