Zagreb, June 3 (IANS) Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric has accepted responsibility to lead the Croatian football team in Euro 2016, but does not want too much optimism to distract them.

Modric told newspaper Sportske Novosti that the team has ability to pass the group stage of Euro starting on June 10, but while acting modest and avoiding excessively optimistic statements, reports Efe.

Croatia's coach, Ante Cacic, said a few days ago that Modric is the most important player in the national squad and the team's playing style will revolve around him.

Given these accolades Modric is grateful as he said it is nice to hear that and he is willing to take responsibility, but noted that no player can do anything alone.

Modric also revealed that it is likely he will not play the last friendly before the Euro, which his selection will play on Saturday against San Marino.
