Panaji, June 3 (IANS) Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh on Friday said there was "no question" of any transaction with any Karnataka legislator to elect a third Congress candidate from the southern state to the Rajya Sabha.
The Congress general secretary, who is in charge of the party affairs in Karnataka, was responding to a question from reporters in Panaji over the sting operation broadcast on national television channels on Friday.
The sting showed Karnakata legislators, especially from regional parties, including the Janata Dal-Secular, discussing vast sums of monies promised to them, allegedly by the Congress for backing the party candidate for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha election scheduled on June 11.
"I have not seen the clip. I must point out a few things. We got nine Independent MLAs, and if we get those nine Independent MLAs our third candidate is through. Only two or three are left. And there is no question of any transaction whatsoever to any MLA," Digvijaya Singh said, addressing a press conference in Panaji.
"None of the Congress MLAs or anyone connected to the Congress is part of the sting. But let me also point out that the JD-S has always been giving seats to moneybags. Vijay Mallya was a member of parliament from JD-S. They and BJP, both together, were responsible for him to be a member of the Rajya Sabha," Digvijaya Singh said.
