India poised to be clean energy capital of world: Minister

New Delhi, June 3 (IANS) Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said India was poised to be the clean energy of capital of the world.

"The mission... is to increase use of clean technologies and renewables for power generation making Clean India Energy Capital of the world," said Goyal while commemorating the Environment Day.

On the occasion, he released a National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) coffee table book - The Good Earth - on bio-diversity.

 

The minister emphasised on the need to restore depleted forest cover through massive tree plantation and urged the public sector company to exceed its plantation targets.

"Power sector in India is focusing on environment sustainability and NTPC has taken a lead by preserving flora and fauna in and around its power stations," said Goyal.

He congratulated NTPC for its largest 4,670 MW Vindhyachal power station achieving 100.05 per cent PLF and generating 114 MUs on Thursday.
