Bengal's actual plan expenditure surpasses budget figure by 7%

Kolkata, June 3 (IANS) West Bengal's Actual Plan Expenditure surpassed the State Plan Expenditure budget by seven per cent in 2015-16, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said here on Friday.

Briefing media persons here after her government's first administrative meeting in its second term, Banerjee said there was no such instance of Actual Plan Expenditure surpassing the budgeted figure in the last 20 years.

"In the last financial year (2015-16), our State Plan Expenditure budget was Rs.49,507 crore; our expenditure was Rs.53,010 crore -- almost Rs.4,000 crore more. This is a record," she said.

 

The chief minister said the budget figure of Rs.49,507 crore itself was higher than the previous year's actual Rs.39,444 crore by over 25 per cent.

"By achieving the State Plan Expenditure of Rs.53,010 crore, the state achieved a year-on-year growth of nearly 35 per cent from the previous year's expenditure of Rs.39,444 crore," she said.

Banerjee said when her Trinamool Congress came to power in West Bengal in 2011, the plan expenditure (2010-11) was just around Rs.14,000 crore.

"This has increased to Rs.53,010 crore -- nearly four-time increase. So much of assets have been created during our rule," the chief minister said.

During the meeting, attended by all ministers and senior bureaucrats besides districts officials, Banerjee instructed for resumption of all developmental work stalled for the last few months due to the assembly polls.
