Thiruvananthapuram, June 2 (IANS) The new Left government in Kerala will appoint an expert committee to review present policies and suggest remedial measures to take the industries to a new level, said state Industries Minister E. P. Jayarajan.
Addressing reporters here on Thursday, he said there is an urgent need for an in-depth study to find out what are the issues plaguing the various industries in the state.
"Today just 10 out of the 45 state public sector under the Industries department are making profits. The traditional industries like handloom and khadi and the various spinning mills in the cooperative sector is in dire straits. There has to be a serious look done into how things can be taken forward," said Jayarajan.
He said the committee of experts would basically look into how things can be changed.
"We, however are not interested to conduct global investor meetings done by the previous UDF government. It serves no purpose as serious investors do not turn up, instead those who come are people who come for a trip to here," added Jayarajan, considered the right hand man of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
"Anyone who is willing to invest in Kerala will be welcomed and we will ensure that, in a month's time if the proposal is going to suit Kerala, it will be given the green signal, and if it's going to be a no, it will be a no forever," he added.
He said that sand mining will only be done in the public sector.
On the shortage of electricity, which is a serious issue for the industries, he said that a proposal is being readied and he is confident that this is going to resolve all such issues , but asked for a little more time to reveal what the plan is.
