Patna, June 2 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said the formula of forging a Grand Alliance of secular and democratic parties should be adopted at the national level to ensure BJP- and Sangh-free country.
The JD-U president said if the Congress had adopted the Bihar formula in Assam assembly polls, the BJP would not have come to power in the north-eastern state.
"The Bihar formula of the grand alliance of secular parties is the need of the hour to defeat communal forces in the country," Nitish Kumar said at a meeting of Janata Dal-United (JD-U) office-bearers and leaders here.
Nitish Kumar cautioned that if secular parties did not join hands, the communal forces will not be defeated.
"Now, the time is not for a party but the formation of a grand alliance on the lines of the Bihar formula to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance in the future polls."
Meanwhile, JD-U general secretary K.C. Tyagi said the party's national council has decided to dissolve all national bodies of the party. "After the party campaign for new membership, the JD-U will announce the formation of new national bodies."
The JD-U will start its membership drive from June 5 across the country. The JD-U aims to enroll 50 lakh new members in Bihar alone.
Tyagi said after Bihar, the JD-U will focus on spreading to strengthen its network in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Punjab.
