Pakistani attacked for accusing JuD of running parallel legal system

Islamabad, June 1 (IANS) A Pakistani man on Wednesday said he was attacked over a complaint he filed accusing Islamic charity Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) of operating an unauthorised Islamic judicial system in the country.

"They asked me why I had complained against JuD and threatened me with serious consequences if I don't withdraw the court case," Efe news quoted Khalid Saaed as saying.

At least two men pointed a gun at Saeed as he was on his way to the court for the hearing of a case in Lahore on Tuesday.

Saeed said the JuD had earlier tried to force him to resolve a money-related dispute in its courts and threatened to punish him according to Islamic Sharia law if he failed to appear, prompting him to file a case against the group over running a parallel Islamic legal system.

JuD spokespersons have denied the allegations, calling their system "voluntary arbitration councils" that the group has managed for two decades.
