Five bombs seized in Manipur, no arrest made

Imphal, June 1 (IANS) The Indian Army on Wednesday seized five powerful bombs from Chandel district in Manipur during combing operations in villages along the 398-km Indian border in Manipur with Myanmar, intelligence sources said.

The sources told IANS that the bombs were seized from Phailangzan village near Molcham.

On May 22, insurgents of Corcom, an apex body of six proscribed underground organisations, ambushed and killed six soldiers and injured seven others in Chandel district before escaping with six sophisticated weapons.

Meanwhile, a foreign-made hand-grenade was lobbed inside the house of Y. Rajendra, Deputy Director (Administration) at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, on Wednesday but it did not explode.

Police later seized it for carrying out a controlled explosion.

The institute is run by the union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
