Ahmedabad, June 1 (IANS) With the Congress opting out of the race for Rajya Sabha by-poll in Gujarat, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Parshottam Rupala was all set to be elected unopposed.
The bypoll was necessitated after the death of sitting member Pravin Rashtrapal, of the Congress.
The Congress did not file any nomination till the last day on Tuesday leaving Rupala alone, besides BJP's dummy candidate K.C. Patel.
A former state BJP president, Rupala will be Rajya Sabha member for the rest of Rashtrapal's term.
BJP sources said Patel was likely to pull back his nomination ahead of the last date for withdrawal scheduled for Friday.
This will be Rupala's second foray in the Rajya Sabha and party sources believe Prime Minister Narendra Modi could induct him in the union council of ministers during a likely reshuffle soon.
