Ahmedabad, June 1 (IANS) The Gujarat government on Wednesday declared 81 more villages as scarcity-affected, taking the number to 1,347.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the cabinet subcommittee on water scarcity in Gandhinagar, where it was also decided to supply fodder to 31 villages of Halol taluka of Panchmahal district at affordable rate.
According to minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, who is heading the sub-committee, the 81 villages declared scarcity-hit include 27 in Porbandar, 20 in Ranavav and 34 from Kutiyana belt, all in Porbandar district.
At present, 994 villages across Gujarat have been declared partial scarcity hit while 353 are declared scarcity hit. In all, there are total 1,347 villages declared officially as those affected by scarcity.
According to the government, 11,518 drought relief works are going on in 4,148 villages involving 4,11,000 labourers, while 192 fodder depots are functional in nine districts. As many as 85,000 needy farmers have been given fodder cards.
As many as 681 tankers supply water to 509 villages and 1,042 areas around them.
