Chennai, May 31 (IANS) Extending support to Goods and Services Tax Bill, accelerating investment in infrastructure, improving ease of doing business and interacting regularly with industry chambers are some items on the Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry's (MCCI) wish list for the new J.Jayalalithaa government.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday welcoming the new government in the state, the MCCI said besides being a leading manufacturing state of India, Tamil Nadu is also a state that leads in value addition and final consumption of goods and services.
"Therefore, implementation of GST will help Tamil Nadu consolidate its growth even as India becomes a unified market. There are several interim and pre-requisite steps for the smooth implementation of GST, for which MCCI would be willing to provide the necessary inputs and feedback from industry to the government," the statement said.
The MCCI also appealed to Jayalalithaa to meet the chambers periodically for betterment of industries in the state.
According to the MCCI, the the Ennore Manali Road Improvement Project and the Maduravoyal Corridor to link the Chennai Port infrastructure projects have to be completed soon while railway connectivity from Sriperumbudur/Maraimalai Nagar to the port is to be explored (as railway lines already exist) which would help in reduction of transactions cost substantially.
The MCCI also urged the state government to expand metro connectivity linking Sriperumbudur, Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), East Coast Road (ECR) and Sri City, an integrated industrial township in Andhra Pradesh around 70km from here.
