Vocal, sitar recital enthrals capital’s classical music lovers

New Delhi, May 30 (IANS) Classical music aficionados in the capital were treated with the melliflous voice of Arshad Ali and enchanting ragas of sitar player Purbayan Chatterjee at 'Baithak', a series introduced by Legends of India to set a new trend of classical music appreciation here.

Known to be a maestro par-excellence, Ali effortlessly mesmerised the audience with the strike of the first note of raga "Shudh Kalyan", "Vilambit Jhoomra" taal, "Drut Teen Taal" among others, read a statement.

Chatterjee peformed a rendition of "Raga Kedar" with a romantic mood along with "Alap Jod", a bandish in "Madhyalaya Jhaaptal" (D.V. Paluskar's "Jaage Kaun") followed by a bandish in Drut Teental ("Kanha re"), also immortalised by Paluskar. He also performed the "Raga Mishra Pahadi" ("Rangi Saari" immortalised by Shobha Gurtu).

Anubrata, son of Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, accompanied Purbayan on the tabla.

"Legends of India", an organisation engaged in the promotion of Indian classical art forms has been organising the series "Baithaks & Morning Raga" in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi every month.
