Kolkata, May 30 (IANS) The West Bengal government will conduct a common entrance test for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses on July 20, an official said here on Monday.
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board on Monday declared it would hold the examinations, which were earlier cancelled due to a Supreme Court order before the government brought in an ordinance to permit some states to hold their own exams, in two shifts from 10.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 20.
Officials said examinees need not submit fresh applications or any additional fee but they will be issued fresh admit cards.
The apex court had refused to modify its April 28 order making NEET mandatory for admissions to undergraduate medical courses across the country for the academic year 2016-2017.
Subsequently, the NEET ordinance which was signed by President Pranab Mukherjee on May 24, permitted seven states to enrol students in undergraduate medical courses on basis of exams they conduct.
