TDP mega-convention begins in Tirupati

Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), May 27 (IANS) A three-day "Mahanadu" (mega-convention) of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) began in the temple town of Tirupati on Friday.

Party leaders and workers from both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana arrived in large numbers to attend the convention. The TDP is in ruling in Andhra Pradesh and is one of the opposition parties in Telangana.

TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu hoisted the party flag indicating the inaugural. He also opened a photo exhibition on the late party founder NT Rama Rao.

TDP Andhra Pradesh unit president Kala Venkata Rao, who is monitoring the arrangements, said about 30,000 leaders and cadres would attend the meeting from both the states and participate in the discussions on various developments, political and general resolutions.

There will be political resolutions on Sunday, the last day.

Chandrababu Naidu's son and party general secretary Nara Lokesh is also overseeing the arrangements.

"Though we have made food arrangements for 30,000 people, the attendance seems to be more. Our cooks are ready to prepare for the additional crowd also," Venkata Rao said.
