Bhopal, May 25 (IANS) Two mountaineers from Madhya Pradesh scaled Mt Everest and hoisted the tricolour on the world's highest peak, officials here said on Wednesday.
The department of youth affairs and sports said in its statement that, "Bhagvan Singh Kushwaha of Bhopal and Ratnesh Pandey of Satna were successful in reaching the peak of Mount Everest on May 19 and 21."
"About eight mountaineers left for Everest on March 30. Bhagvan Singh Kushwaha, an employee of the department of youth affairs and sports, reached the peak on May 19. Ratnesh Pandey's team consisted of 16 mountaineers, of whom only 10 succeeded. Prior to this expedition, Bhagvan Singh has climbed Dalhousie, Chandanwadi and Kailash Mansarover mountain ranges. Pandey scaled the mountain on May 21," the statement said.
State Sports Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia has congratulated both the state mountaineers.
