Mumbai, May 25 (IANS) Actress Maryam Zakaria, who has acted in popular Hindi films and down South, is all set to feature in an item number for the upcoming investigative thriller 'Missing On A Weekend'.
"Most of the item numbers in our industry are vulgar and are just to cater to the masses. But for us, it was a creative demand of the script to shoot an item number and that's why we thought that shooting one with Maryam would be superb. How much ever we say that content is king, however good a film might be, we always need a popular face to grab the attention of the audience so that they give the content of our film a chance.AI am sure that our content will do the job. There could not have been anyone more popular, apt and hotter than Maryam for this special song," director Abhishek Jawkar said in an interview.
Maryam has previously danced to a mujra-style item number along with Kareena Kapoor Khan in the film aAgent Vinod' starring Saif Ali Khan. She has also acted in the popular film, 'Grand Masti', along with numerous films down South.
'Missing On A Weekend' is the thrilling story of a group of friends who set out to Goa but are faced with criminal elements, with veteran singer Hariharan's son Karan playing of the protagonists.
Intense actor Pavan Malhotra is the investigative officer who is intent on solving the case and bringing the criminals to justice.
"Being the writer, director and one of the producers of the film, it was a difficult task to deliver a meaningful, intellectual and commercial cinema. I have received tremendous support from my co-producers to bring justice to this film," Jawkar added.
Written and directed by Abhishek Jawkar, the film is jointly presented by The Red Bulb Studios and Adept Films.
The film is slated for release on June 24.
