New Delhi, May 25 (IANS) The national capital experienced a cloudy day on Wednesday with a hailstorm in one area while a dust storm blew over most of the city. The weather office forecast light rain on Thursday.
According to the Met Office, a hailstorm occurred in south Delhi's Aya Nagar area, lasting for seven minutes.
The hailstorm struck Aya Nagar locality at 6.45 p.m. and lasted till 6.52 p.m. Some areas of the city witnessed dust storm. The hailstorm occurred due to Western Disturbance, said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
A Western Disturbance in the weatherman's language refers to a tropical storm system originating in the Mediterranean Sea that brings rain or snow in the western Himalayan ranges, the Met Office said.
The maximum temperature of the day settled at 38.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.
"There would be partly cloudy sky on Thursday with light rain/thundershower likely to occur in some areas of Delhi and NCR," the weather office said.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 40 and 25 degrees Celsius.
Wednesday's minimum temperature was recorded at 27.4 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average, while the humidity oscillated between 64 and 56 percent.
Tuesday's maximum temperature settled at 35.4 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 23.1 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average.
