Two hurt as Metro girder falls on autorickshaw in Haryana

Gurgaon, May 24 (IANS) A girder of a Rapid Metro station being constructed here fell on a moving autorickshaw, injuring at least two occupants on Tuesday, police said.

Sunil Kumar, who had hired the autorickshaw, and the driver suffered minor injuries in the incident, a senior police officer told IANS.

A female friend of Sunil Kumar was also in the autorickshaw.

"A girder was being placed for supporting the station's roof when it fell down," the officer said.

The incident happened at the Rapid Metro station opposite Doubletree Hilton hotel.

The police have registered a complaint against the contractor for endangerment of life of people.

"Any incident of this nature is unfortunate and we are ensuring assistance to the people involved," a spokesperson of Rapid Metro said.

"Despite the stringent safety measures in place, this incident has occurred. We have initiated an enquiry and have asked our contractor to submit a detailed report on the same," the spokesperson added.
