Warsaw, May 23 (IANS) Promising javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra missed the Rio Olympics qualification mark even after bagging the silver medal at the Zygmunta Selesta Memorial here on Monday.
Neeraj, who threw 79.73 metres to earn the silver, fell short of the Olympics qualification standard for men's javelin of 83 metres, although the 19-year-old threw another 81 metres which was declared null.
Local boy Grzeszczuk, who threw 83.50m on Sunday clinched the gold while Slovakia's Zenuch settled for the bronze with a best throw of 77.07m.
Another Indian thrower in the fray, Vipin Kasana finished seventh.
In women's section, 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist Annu Rani also won the silver medal, but her throw of 56.76 metres was almost six metres behind the Rio qualification mark.
