Modi God's gift to nation: Naidu

New Delhi, May 21 (IANS) Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a "gift to the nation from God" and his image helped the BJP win the Assam assembly elections.

In an interview to ETV, Naidu elaborated on the BJP's slogan of 'Congress-mukt Bharat', saying the party wants "Congress-rule free nation and not Congress-free nation".

He said the BJP does not have any problem with the Congress being in the opposition.

"The nation wants to get rid of Congress's corrupt model of governance," he said.

Naidu said Modi takes decisions keeping in mind the benefits and interests of the poor.

"He is a gift from the God to the nation. The Modi government has implemented schemes from pensions to antodaya which are beneficial for the poor," Naidu said.

The minister said the BJP won assembly polls in Assam because of its strong organisation, capable leadership and the prime minister's public image.

"Fifteen years of Congress misrule (in Assam) is also a reason that helped the BJP win in the state. The result is a combination of all these reasons," he said.

He described Modi as 'Making of Developed India' and said he has the potential to transform the country.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Naidu said the opposition party was losing power in every state due to its wrong policies.

"The Congress (support) is confined to six percent population. Whereas the BJP is spreading from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Our vote percentage in Bengal has increased. In Kerala and Tamil Nadu too our presence has increased," Naidu said.

The minister advised the Congress to introspect on its electoral losses.

Talking about the achievements of the Modi government in the last two years, Naidu said: "No corruption charge has come out till date."

He said the government was working with transparency with the motto of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'.
