Ranchi, May 21 (IANS) Having been able to capture some Maoist guerrillas with the help of cash incentives, Jharkhand police on Saturday announced a Rs.50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of 23 wanted people.
"These 23 people are wanted in cases of murder, extortion, robbery and other serious charges. The state government has offered a reward of Rs.50,000 for help in catching each of them," a police official told IANS.
"The amount will be given to a person giving information leading to the arrest or a policeman making the arrest," the police official said.
He said the reward was on the lines of a tactic employed in dealing with the Maoist guerrillas who are active in most of the districts of Jharkhand.
"Quite a few arrests were made after the state government announced cash reward up to Rs.25 lakh for help in capturing some Maoist guerrillas."
Jharkhand police is grappling with rising cases of rape, murder, robbery and other crimes and is under pressure to be seen to be taking countermeasures.
A few of the countermeasures have also proven effective, it claims.
About 2000 stolen two-wheelers have been recovered after the police launched a special drive to check the vehicles on the roads three months ago.
The cases of theft of two-wheelers have also gone down since the drive was launched, claimed police officer D.K. Pandey.
