Srinagar/New Delhi, May 21 (IANS) The by-election for south Kashmir's Anantnag assembly seat will be held on June 19, the Election Commission announced on Saturday.
The death of the then chief minister and sitting legislator Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7 in New Delhi necessitated the bypoll.
While the voting will be held on June 19 the counting will be taken up on June 22.
The last date for filing of nominations will be June 1 and the last date of withdrawal June 4.
A notification for the by-election will be issued on May 25, the commission said in New Delhi.
Sayeed's daughter and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is likely to contest the seat to enter the assembly.
At present, she represents south Kashmir's Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency in parliament.
