Chandigarh, May 20 (IANS) Chandigarh and its adjoining areas were hit by a thunderstorm on Friday evening, brining some respite from the sweltering heat over the past one week.
The storm was accompanied by rainfall for some time.
The city recorded a maximum temperature on 41 degrees on Friday.
Heat wave conditions however continued in Haryana and Punjab on Friday with most places in both states recording maximum temperatures of over 42 degrees Celsius.
Haryana's Hisar town was the hottest in the region at 45.6 degrees Celsius, four degrees above average, while Amritsar was the hottest in Punjab with a high of 43.6 degrees.
In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded highs of 42.3 and 42.1 degrees respectively.
