Paris attacks suspect questioned by judges

Paris, May 20 (IANS) Paris terror suspect Salah Abdeslam was on Friday questioned by investigating judges over his involvement in the deadly November 2015 attacks.

Abdeslam arrived at the Palais de Justice in a convoy surrounded by heavy security, having travelled from Fleury Merogis prison, about 30 km from the French capital, EFE news reported.

Arrested on March 18 in Brussels and transferred to France on April 27, Abdeslam is the only suspected perpetrator of the Paris attacks behind bars.

He is accused of leading the three terrorists who blew themselves up at the Stade de France, where a soccer game between France and Germany was being played, and where one person was killed.

He is also believed to have been responsible for renting the cars used for the attacks, as well as the hotel rooms and the apartment that served as accommodation for the perpetrators.

When he appeared before the Belgian judge after his arrest, Abdeslam downplayed his role, casting the blame on his brother, Brahim, who blew himself up with explosives on November 13 after participating in shootings carried out at several bars and restaurants in Paris.

The attacks on the French capital killed 130 people.
