Panaji, May 20 (IANS) The Congress in Goa has backed AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh, who on Thursday caused a stir by insisting that the Congress needs a "major surgery" to revive its political fortunes.
In a statement issued on Friday, Congress secretary Durgadas Kamat said the party in Goa, fraught with internal dissent, also needed a "major surgery".
"Goa also requires surgery and I am sure Dijvijayaji as general secretary in charge of Goa is working towards it.
"We need a major surgery in Goa so that we can bounce back to power," said Kamat, a close aide of Singh.
A few hours after the poll results in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Kerala stunned the Congress, Singh tweeted: "Today's results disappointing but not unexpected. We have done enough introspection, shouldn't we go for a major surgery?"
The tweet came shortly after Congress president Sonia Gandhi promised introspection over the party's electoral losses.
