Warm Thursday morning in Delhi, heat waves expected

New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) It was a warm Thursday morning with minimum temperature recorded at 28.6 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees up from Wednesday, the weather office said.

The day ahead is expected to get warmer.

"The sky will mainly remain clear. Dust and thunder storm are likely to occur towards the evening and morning," said an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official.

The officials at IMD cautioned against the heat waves in the national capital, expecting the maximum temperature to hover around 43 degree Celsius. weather analysts predict no respite from heat at least till May 22.

"It is expected to remain dry till May 22. Light rains are expected in some part of Delhi on May 23, which may reduce the heat a little bit," an official at IMD said.

The humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 55 percent and visibility remained at 3,000 metres, the official said.

As per IMD, the minimum temperature would further increase on Friday to 29 degree Celsius.

The maximum temperature on Wednesday settled at 43.7 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average, while the mercury touched 46.4 degrees in certain parts and the weather office had declared an Orange alert.

Wednesday's minimum was 26.4 degrees, average for the season, while the humidity oscillated between 56 and 17 percent.
