Kolkata, May 19 (IANS) West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress was way ahead of its rivals in assembly elections on Thursday, leading in 146 of the 204 constituencies where trends were available.
The Left-Congress alliance had forged ahead in 56 constituencies.
The Bharatiya Janata Party was in the lead in two seats and the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha in three.
A total of 1,961 candidates contested the elections held from April 4 to May 5 to elect a 294-member assembly.
The Trinamool Congress led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Left Front-Congress alliance are the main contenders for power.
