Islamabad, May 19 (IANS) A tribal elders body (Jirga) in Pakistan has settled the boundary dispute between Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and Gilgit-Baltistan territory and the process of demarcation will be started next week, it was reported on Thursday.
The demarcation of share of each tribe in the disputed territory will be carried out on May 23, Assadullah Qureshi, action committee chairman, announced during the Jirga of Harban tribe of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Thor tribe of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Jirga, which concluded after three days of deliberations with the final note of peace and tranquility between both tribes, settled almost all important issues that had caused tension between them.
If we can settle our issues peacefully as we have done now here at the Jirga then nobody can create conflict between us in future, said Qureshi.
In 2014, four people were killed in an exchange of fire between the rival tribes over the disputed boundary.
Dilbar Jan, who led the Thor tribe, voiced similar sentiments.
We would follow the same way in the future too so that nobody can create a rift between our tribes, said Jan.
Fazl-i-Khaliq, the deputy commissioner of Kohistan, termed the verdict as a great breakthrough.
We would take decree of the Jirga to our official committee having five officials each from GB and KP... the final strategy can then be evolved, he said.
