Islamabad, May 19 (IANS) The Pakistan government will provide to Sri Lanka the bone relics of the Buddha for an exposition throughout the island-nation during the Buddhist festival of Vesak.
The relics kept at the Taxila museum include two bone pieces of the Buddha, stone reliquary in stupa shape and a golden casket, Dawn online quoted the Pakistan embassy in Sri Lanka as saying on Wednesday.
Vesak marks the commemoration of the birth, enlightenment and the passing away of Gautama Buddha.
The exposition is being organised by the Sri Lankan government.
The relics would arrive in Sri Lanka for an extended period on the auspicious day of Vesak on May 21 and will be exhibited until June 19 which marks another significant Buddhist celebration -- the Full Moon Poson Poya Day, it said.
A Sri Lankan delegation, including senior Buddhist monks, left for Pakistan on Wednesday to bring the Buddha relics, which would be handed over to it by the authorities at a special ceremony at Taxila on Thursday.
