Panaji, May 19 (IANS) The next stage of a 'Congress-mukt Bharat' will be a rout of the party in the Goa assembly elections early next year, a state Bharatiya Janata Party leader said on Thursday.
On the other hand, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh said his party's electoral revival might begin with the coastal western state.
The electoral defeat of the Congress in Assam and Kerala and the party's inability to make significant advances in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal meant that the BJP's slogan of a 'Congress-mukt Bharat' was ringing true, Goa BJP spokesperson Pramod Sawant told reporters here.
"These election results point out that Congress-mukt Bharat is around the corner... The party will be routed completely when polls are held in Goa," Sawant said.
Asked if Goa could help reverse the Congress fortunes, which have been slipping since the party's stinging loss in the 2014 general elections, Singh said: "This is what we intend to do."
Goa is likely to go to polls in January next.
