Show driving licence on smartphone soon in Britain

London, May 18 (IANS) British Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) which is responsible for maintaining a database of drivers and vehicles is developing digital version of driving licence to be stored on your smartphone.

“So here's a little prototype of something we're working on,” said Olive Morley, CEO of DVLA, on the micro-blogging Twitter in a tweet. The post also included a picture which appears as a “pass” in an iPhone's Wallet app.

“There is no timeline for when the digital licence will be introduced. The app would be used as an "add-on" to the existing photocard and security is their main priority,” he was quoted as saying in London-based newspaper Evening Standard.

“The US state of Iowa has tested digital ID recently while Britain-based commercial banknote printer and passport manufacturer De La Rue is exploring the possibility of storing passports on smartphones,” the report added.
