Severe heatwave paralyses life in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 18 (IANS) Heatwave conditions continued to prevail in the desert state of Rajasthan with the mercury touching 49.1 degrees Celsius in Churu on Wednesday.

Heatwave conditions have virtually paralysed life in the state with markets reporting thin attendance especially during afternoons.

While Churu was scorched at 49.1 degrees Celsius, border districts of Jaisalmer and Barmer burned at 48.8 and 48.6 degrees Celsius.

The state capital Jaipur recorded a maximum temperature of 45.8 degrees Celsius, five degrees above average.

Sri Ganganagar and Jodhpur were hot at 48.5 and 48 degrees Celsius respectively.

If weather forecast is to be believed then the state is unlikely to see any respite from heatwave over the next day.

"Severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at a few places in the state in next 24 hours. Jaipur will see clear sky with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 46 and 29 degrees celsius in next 24 hours," a weather department official said.
