Hackers trying to infiltrate presidential campaigns

Washington, May 19 (IANS) US intelligence chief James Clapper has said there were "some indications" that cyber hackers were trying to infiltrate presidential campaigns.

"We've already had some indications of that," said the director of national intelligence here at an event on Wednesday, adding that as the campaigns intensify, more cyber attacks would be expected, Xinhua reports.

Clapper, as the nation's top intelligence official, is charged with overseeing the process of giving the Republican and Democratic nominees classified briefings prior to the general election in November.

The Republican and Democratic candidates for president will start receiving intelligence briefings after being officially nominated at party conventions in July.
