Former Bangladesh PM challenges SC order over graft case

Dhaka, May 18 (IANS) Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday moved to Supreme Court seeking a stay on a case that accuses her of graft involving funds.

The two pleas involving Zia Charitable Trust will be heard by a chamber judge next week, bdnews24.com quoted Khaleda's lawyer as saying.

Dhaka high court earlier turned down Khaleda's pleas to suspend the case's activities after her request to have its investigating officer cross-examined again was rejected by a special court.

Her lawyers sought fresh testimonies and cross-examinations on April 17 after objecting to the deposition by the case's Investigating Officer Harunur Rashid, but the plea was rejected.

Two pleas were filed for an order scrapping the decision but were rejected on May 15.

The BNP chief, along with three other people, is accused of embezzling Tk 31.5 million in the case filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2010.
