Man jumps before Metro train, survives

New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) A 27-year-old man on Tuesday tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a Delhi Metro train but miraculously survived, an official said.

The incident took place at the Chandni Chowk station around noon on Platform One, an official of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) told IANS.

"The man survived because he fell between the tracks of the Delhi Metro," a security official told IANS, adding, "Some people were seen stopping him in the CCTV footage."

Police suspect that Mangal, a resident of Malda in West Bengal, is a drug addict. He had arrived in the national capital on Tuesday morning.

During his treatment in the hospital he threatened to jump from the building, police added.

Mangal was immediately rushed to the Civil Lines Trauma Centre, where he was said to be out of danger.

The attempted suicide hit services on the Yellow Line, delaying trains plying between Huda City Centre at Gurgaon and Samaypur Badli in north Delhi.
