Haryana replaces home secretary

Chandigarh, May 17 (IANS) The Haryana government on Tuesday removed state Home Secretary P.K. Das from the post and replaced with senior IAS officer Ram Niwas.

Six other senior Indian Administrative Service officers have been shuffled by the Manohar Lal Khattar government.

"Ram Niwas, additional chief secretary, irrigation department has been posted as additional chief secretary, home, jails, criminal investigation and administration of justice departments relieving P.K.Das of the said charge," a state government spokesman said here.

Though no official reason had been given for the sudden change, it is being linked to the administrative and police failure during the large scale violence in various parts of Haryana during the Jat agitation for reservation in February this year.

The Haryana government had last month removed state Director General of Police (DGP) Yash Pal Singhal and appointed IPS officer K.P. Singh as the new police chief.
