Days hot in Himachal, but nights pleasant in high hills

Shimla, May 17 (IANS) Mercury levels remained high across Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday with the temperature being recorded two to six degrees above the average, the weatherman said, adding that tourist destinations located in high hills like Manali still experiencing "chilly" nights.

"Temperatures across the state remained on the higher side due to absence of rain in the past few days. The maximum temperature remained above average by two to six degrees," an official of the meteorological office here told IANS.

He said Shimla's maximum temperature at 27.2 was three degrees above the average for this time of the year, whereas the night temperature was 17 degrees.

 

Tourist destinations Manali and Kalpa saw the minimum temperature at 6.6 and eight degrees Celsius respectively. The days were warmer in both the towns at 24.2 degrees.

Una was the hottest place in the state at 42.8 degrees.

Likewise, Sundernagar saw a maximum of 36.6 degrees Celsius, Nahan 36.9 degrees and Dharamsala, the headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile, saw a high of 32.2 degrees Celsius, two degrees above the average.

The weatherman said nights were comparatively pleasant in other popular tourist resorts like Narkanda, Kufri, Kasauli, Palampur and Dalhousie.

The Met department said the weather would largely remain dry till May 23.
