Prince Ali bin Hussein accuses Infantino of ‘betrayal’

London, May 17 (IANS) Former FIFA presidential candidate, Prince Ali bin Hussein of Jordan, has accused FIFA's current president Gianni Infantino of "complete betrayal" to all members of the international football governing body.

Citing an interview with Telegraph Sport Efe news agency noted that Prince Ali has said some of Infantino's proposals during the 66th FIFA Congress, held last week in Mexico City, were intended to undermine FIFA's measures against corruption.

"The way the vote was put to the members of the FIFA congress, as well as the effect of that vote, was a complete betrayal to all of those who thought they had voted for change, transparency, fair play and reform," Hussein said.

The Jordanian Prince, who attended the FIFA congress in his capacity as the president of the Jordan football Association, added, "It is one of the biggest blows FIFA has received in the last two years; the ramifications of which are massive."

"We were suddenly being asked to approve a change to the statutes that removed the independence of the ethics committee, the audit and compliance committee, the appeals committee and the reform committee," he explained.
