Gurgaon man gets life in prison for killing mother

Gurgaon, May 16 (IANS) A court here has sentenced a 32-year-old man to life imprisonment for killing his widowed mother in December 2014 with the help of his cousin, the prosecutor said on Monday.

District and Session Judge Harnam Singh Thakur has found Satish Kumar and his cousin Chattar Singh, 27, guilty for killing Murti Devi, resident of village Raisina under Bhondsi police station. Singh also received the same punishment.

The reason was that Kumar, who was the only son, wanted to to sell his ancestral house to return the money he had borrowed from Chattar Singh.

Murti Devi, who was around 50 years and worked as a helper at a private school near her village, was murdered December 7 while returning home.

The accused thought her body will be eaten up by wild animals and there will be no proof of the crime. To hinder the body's identification and to attract wild animals to it, the duo cut her neck and face.

However, the badly-decomposed body was found at the foothills of Aravalli range on Dec 13, 2014 and identified from the footwear and clothes.

Kumar and Singh were arrested on December 18, 2014.
