Mumbai, May 16 (IANS) The first 'Hullad Muradabadi' memorial award for poetry has been conferred on well-known Hindi satirist and poet Ashok Chakradhar, it was announced on Monday.
A former professor of Hindi literature at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, Chakradhar is a renowned literary figure with several books and collection of poems to his credit, said Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam, who presented the award along with the Kavitalaya Foundation.
The occasion was a literary meet on Sunday night in memory of Susheel Kumar Chadha 'Hullad Muradabadi', who passed away here in July 2014, aged 72.
Besides Navneet Chadha, the literary meet saw some of the biggest names in Hindi literature including Arun Jaimini, Ghanshyam Agrawal, Subhash Kabra, Tejnarain Sharma alias Bechain, Rao Ajatshatru and Padminis Sharma who regaled the audiences with their comedy and satirical gems.
Nirupam announced that a similar commemorative conference for Muradabadi would become an annual feature with awards for the best literary figures.
