Ranchi, May 15 (IANS) Jharkhand is set to witness by-elections on Monday in Godda and Panki assembly constituencies. The results will be out on May 19.
Fifteen candidates are in the fray at Godda, the prominent ones being Amit Mandal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sanjay Yadav of the RJD and Sanjiv Marik Yadav of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Another nine are in the race at Panki including Kushwaha Sashibhushan Mehta of JMM, Devendra Kumar Singh (Congress) and Lal Suraj (BJP).
The balloting was necessitated following the death of BJP legislator Raghunandan Mandal at Godda and legislator Bidesh Singh of the Congress from Panki.
According to police, 250 booths in Panki and 80 in Godda have been declared "sensitive".
