Los Angeles, May 15 (IANS) Gareth Edwards has departed as director of Godzilla 2 after helming the 2014 reboot for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures.
The exit comes three days after Warner Bros moved the release of Godzilla 2 to March 22, 2019. It was scheduled to hit the screens on June 8, 2018.
A source close to Edwards indicated that his decision was not related to any difficulties with the material or the "Godzilla" franchise, but rather a desire to do smaller projects after directing two big-budget films "Godzilla" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" back-to-back, reports variety.com.
Warner Bros and Legendary partnered on Godzilla, which grossed $529 million worldwide.
