New Delhi, May 12 (IANS) Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Thursday laid foundation stone of "Western Court Hostel Annexe" in central Delhi here to provide more transit accommodation to new MPs and their guests, a statement said.
The building will have several green features including solar power generation of 20 KW, rain water harvesting, irrigation through waste water and use of concrete blocks made of recycled material.
A Lok Sabha release said that annexe will have 88 fully furnished suites and will be constructed behind the existing Western Court hostel building at the Janpath.
The project will have features of "3 star GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat)", will be earthquake resistant and have a sewage treatment plant too.
As the existing Western Court building is a heritage building, the proposed building will be in harmony with the existing building in terms of height & facade.
"It has been felt for some time that the existing transit accommodation (74 suites) was not sufficient to accommodate the new members of parliament and their guests. Therefore, the need for construction of more transit accommodations was suggested by the Lok Sabha House Committee," the release said.
