Kolkata, May 11 (IANS) Titan Eyeplus is set to launch two satellite lens manufacturing facilities in Noida and Mumbai, a company official said on Wednesday.
"Our Noida satellite unit is up and running as production has started. The Mumbai plant will come up around June," said Titan's chief executive officer of eyewear business Ronnie Talati at the launch of a satellite facility at Madhyamgram on the city outskirts.
The investment would be around Rs.4-5 crore for each unit, he said.
"The new manufacturing facilities will enable us to reduce delivery and processing time. Earlier, when an order was placed from any of our stores, the lens was manufactured in our Karnataka plant and then sent to the respective stores. The new facilities will enable us to reduce lead time wherein even progressive lens requirements can be churned out in a single day," the company's managing director Bhaskar Bhat said.
"The city unit will produce 450 lenses per day. The upcoming units will also have similar capacities. The city unit will cater to mainly eastern and north-eastern markets whereas Noida will cater to north India and likewise Mumbai unit will cater to western India," Talati said.
The company's central manufacturing facility is at Chikkaballpur in Karnataka with a capacity of producing 1,700 lenses per day.
The company will set up a frame manufacturing unit outside Bengaluru with a capacity of one million pieces a year, with an investment of Rs.27-30 crore, Talati said.
The officials said the eyewear segment had been growing at 15 percent year-on-year and the company expects to keep a similar growth figure in the current fiscal.
The company has over 404 stores in 151 cities.
