BSF seizes 4 kg heroin in Punjab

Chandigarh, May 11 (IANS) The Border Security Force (BSF) has recovered nearly four kg of heroin along the border with Pakistan in Punjab's Amritsar sector, a BSF officer said on Wednesday.

The seizure is valued at Rs.19 crore in the international market.

The seizure was made at a border outpost Ghoga, about 300 km from here.

A BSF patrol noticed an abandoned cylindrical iron shaft pipe lying near the barbed wire fence close to the international boundary.

A search of the pipe revealed six packets in which 3.8 kg of heroin was packed.

"The recent seizures, interdiction and apprehension of smugglers have given a setback to Indian and Pakistani smugglers and compelled them to conceive new modus operandi to hoodwink security agencies to clear the consignment of contraband items," a BSF spokesman said.
