BJP demands CBI probe into Kerala student’s rape and murder

New Delhi, May 11 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday demanded a CBI probe into the rape and murder of a law student in Kerala.

BJP member Arjun Ram Meghwal made the demand in the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour.

"I along with two other BJP MPs visited Kerala and met the family members of the victim. We found lapses on the part of the local administration in handling the case," Meghwal said.

He said the culprits in the case have not yet been arrested.

"The SIT constituted to probe the case does not have senior officials. I urge the prime minister and the Union home minister to carry out a CBI probe in the matter," he said.

On April 28, a 27-year-old woman, Jisha, was found murdered in Perumbavoor in Ernakulam. Her mutilated body was found by her mother Rajeshwari. The brutality of the crime has led to comparisons with the 2012 gang rape of a paramedical student in Delhi that shook the nation.

Days later, another young student was allegedly gang-raped and dumped at Varkala near Thiruvananthapuram.
