Value buying lifts equity markets

Mumbai, May 10 (IANS) With value buying in capital goods, healthcare and bank stocks lifting prices, the Indian equity markets showed gains during the late-afternoon session on Tuesday.

The wider 51-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) inched up by 15 points, or 0.19 percent, at 7,880.95 points.

The barometer 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 25,682.98 points, traded at 25,756.93 points (at 3.00 p.m.) -- up 68.07 points or 0.26 percent from the previous close at 25,688.86 points.

The Sensex has so far touched a high of 25,809.93 points and a low of 25,614.24 points during the intra-day trade.

The BSE market breadth was marginally tilted in favour of the bears -- with 1,288 declines and 1,242 advances.

Both the key Indian indices made substantial gains during the previous trade session on Monday.

The barometer index had risen by 460.36 points or 1.82 percent, while the NSE Nifty closed higher by 132.60 points or 1.71 percent.
